RNA-Based Regulatory Mechanisms Driving Liver Disease

CIMUS-USC, Santiago de Compostela

Marta Varela Rey is a Group Leader and Associate Professor of the Liver Metabolism and Disorders Laboratory (LIMED) at the Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS-USC). She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Navarra and has developed her scientific career in leading national and international laboratories, including the University of Navarra, Mount Sinai Hospital (New York), University College London, and CIC bioGUNE–CIBEREHD. Her research addresses liver disease through the study of the molecular and metabolic mechanisms driving cholangiocarcinoma, liver regeneration, hepatic fibrosis, and metabolic dysfunction–associated fatty liver disease, with a particular emphasis on gene expression regulation mediated by RNA-binding proteins and lncRNAs.
