After obtaining her Ph.D. at UB (Biomedicine, 2000-2004) and completing a solid postdoctoral training at different research centers in Madrid (UCM, CBMSO) and La Jolla (The Scripps Research Institute), Dr. Fernández-Veledo began her independent career in 2011 as a Miguel Servet researcher (ISCIII) at the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV).

Currently, she is a consolidated researcher (R4) at the IISPV, where she leads the Diabetes and Associated Metabolic Diseases (DIAMET) research group and has been recognized as co-IP of the group in CIBERDEM. Her research combines basic and clinical studies to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying comorbidities related to obesity, which can help find new approaches and targets for the treatment of these metabolic diseases.

She has published over 80 articles (34 of which as senior author). Some of these articles have been published in high-impact journals such as Nature Immunology, Diabetes Care, and the British Journal of Pharmacology.

She has led 10 competitive research projects (MINECO, Fundació La Caixa, Fundació La Marató de TV3, EFSD) and 4 Innovation & Transfer projects (ISCIII, AGAUR, Fundació La Caixa).

Additionally, Dr. Fernández-Veledo has experience in managing non-competitive contracts and agreements with the pharmaceutical industry, as well as generating industrial and intellectual property (holder of three patents).
