Dr. Fernández-Veledo obtained her Ph.D. in Biomedicine from the University of Barcelona in 2004. Subsequently, she completed her postdoctoral training at prestigious research centers in Madrid (Spain) and La Jolla (USA). Since 2011, she has built a successful independent career at the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV) in Tarragona, where she is currently leading the Diabetes and Metabolic Associated Diseases Research Group (DIAMET), affiliated with CIBERDEM.

Her research is dedicated to unraveling the molecular mechanisms underpinning obesity-related comorbidities, such as Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and metabolic-associated liver disease (MALD) to identify novel approaches and targets for metabolic disease treatment. Dr. Fernández-Veledo has authored over 100 publications, including senior author contributions in high-impact journals such as Cell Metabolism, Nature Immunology, and Diabetes Care, making significant contributions to the field.

She has led numerous competitive research and Innovation & Transfer projects, collaborating with various institutions and the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, Dr. Fernández-Veledo holds three patents and is a co-founder of the spin-off company SUCCIPRO S.L. Since 2013, she has actively served on scientific evaluation committees, collaborating closely with the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) and the ISCIII. Dr. Fernández-Veledo is also a key member of her  institution’s organizational structures, serving on the IISPV Steering Committee and acting as the coordinator of the institute’s Nutrition and Metabolism Research area.
